MessageSujet: Final Fantasy & other video games !   Lun 7 Nov - 22:07

Hey guys, I divided the thread to make it clearer - and to make it look like I'm doing my mod's job ! Enjoy talking about FF & more ^___^

I think I might have raised these kids a little too well... Ricanement

About FFX-2 : two very good points. I agree it's very different from your usual Final Fantasy. If only because it's a direct sequel to begin with... as you say, there is no epic feel, and I think that's because of a very simple reason : it's not about saving the world, it's only about Yuna moving on (or not) with her life. I kinda liked the idea, and I liked the character development. Everybody says Yuna has turned into a slut, but I'm afraid I have to disagree. She feels very mature to me, and FFX-2 has made her one of my favorite FF females.

Also, I liked the Shuyin/Lenne thread sourire Though it felt a little disconnected from the rest, I thought it was quite nicely done, very emotional.

Oh, and don't worry about school : we ALL have this problem ! lol

I didn't really feel that Yuna turned into a slut (although I personally feel they could have used a bit more covering, but whatever). I did like that you could see how she was moving on and growing in her own personality. The game was definitely more about Yuna discovering who she truly is. She was able to explore herself because she didn't have to worry about sacrificing herself to save the world.

Like I said, it was alright. Just not what you would expect from a typical FF game. sourire

MessageSujet: Re: Final Fantasy & other video games !   Lun 7 Nov - 22:25

Yeah, I think we can agree on the game ! sourire Generally, I've noticed Yuna and Rikku are spoken of as slut (okay, they're quite lightly dressed, but come on ! is that enough to be deemed slutty ? it's as if their personality did not even matter !), and Paine seems to be the only well-liked character of the game because of her darker and more sarcastic ways...

I have to say I love sarcasm. I use my share of it. But... I really thought Paine was the worst of the cast o_O (well, the worst among the three girls, the character I actually despise is Nooj lol) Her sarcasms felt very weak to me mmm... What did you think ?

And thanks for the compliments on my english ;__; I'll have to blush, but I won't lie : I'm very happy to hear that ! I hope to be a translator some day, and though I'll translate English into French rather than the contrary, I'd still like to be able to express myself well enough with it. I hope to spend a few weeks (more ?) in an english-speaking country sometime, to acquire the practice I still lack.

Oh, and one last thing : you can use the edit function ("editer", you can see the button on the top of your posts) instead of posting twice in a row sourire That's all, mod's hat off again now ! lol

Geez, you can see you have made her blush, would it be anyone else, the axe would be swirling above our heads... Gare à toi

Well anyway, thanks for your compliments too ^__^
About FFX-2, the "ambiance" (damn help me Stef lol), well, er, atmosphere, of the game is really... cheerful. Compared to other final fantasy where the game often becomes quickly dark, especially for FF6, it's a kind of big change.
It's surprising at the beginning but I kinda liked it, having characters living their happy and cheerful life rather than wondering if today would be their last day.

It was very entertaining, and I really enjoyed the game, but I lacked the time to make the 100% of the game, man, I'm so busy and still have so much to do... sob .

By the way, I've added you in my msn contacts (?) but I'm not pretty sure about how it really worked ^__^

Ah ! Look at that ! He's trying to hit on you ! >D

Anyway ^___^;; It's too bad you never made it to 100% Eol, I don't remember where you stopped exactly ? As to me, I breezed through my first game (yes, well, I never learned to restrain myself when I got a new RPG, more often than not I juste HAVE to know the end !) and finished with something lame like 55-60% I think.

But in fact, you know what ? That was a great thing. Because the second time around I took all the time in the world to complete the game, and reached the shiny 100%. And I entirely re-discovered the game in a way by doing that... it was so nice to get to enjoy every little detail of the universe, every little piece of plot... to see every character, even the most secondary ones, get on with their life in different ways. In a way, it really felt like coming home, and like getting to know the world in deep and intimate ways FFX had never dealt with. I loved that to a great extent ^^

Man, I can't say anything with you, can I? lol

Well anyway, I had finished the game with about 75%, I don't really remembre, but I lack time, and I've got many things to do, and there are mort that I SHOULD do but I'm too lazy :p

I often do the same as Stef in video games. Actually at the beginning of a new game, I always tell myself: this time, I'll make it whole, but I'm too eager to make it to the end each time lol

I was used to make the game again then, bu unfortunately I couldn't with Star Ocean 3 and FFX-2 (actually, I made it a second time, but I wasn't at 100% mmm... ). And I still have Kingdom Hearts, Wild Arms 3 and Drakengard to finish.

But now, time to go to bed, I get up early tomorrow!!

Let's go, let's go, go go go!!

*Tries to sound motivated*

*...*

*Despair...*

*Sigh*

You know how I love to tease boy Ricanement !

But, yeah, we are the same. Except that I actually completed FFX-2, Star Ocean 3 and Kingdom Hearts lol Great games, all of them. Ah, to tell the truth I have not obtained all the battle trophies in SO3, but that was just... too hardcore and time-consuming for me lol I got around 200 I think, that's more than enough for me !

Unfortunately, I don't have a TV anymore (I don't even have a PS2 anymore euuuuh....) so playing other games will have to wait now !

(I know that you love to tease me... *victim*)

Really? What did you do with your PS2? I thought you would have brought it with you in Montpellier. I knew for the TV, but I know that you share my pain of money-needing-situation-of-the-poor-French-student so I thought you would have to wait a little to buy another one :p

But I HAVE made the secret quest of Clive in Suikoden 2, while you didn't. You should, if you could, it's interesting and gives a few nice details about Clive and Elza's story.

And I'm trying to complete Kingdom Hearts right now. Will I finish before Christmas?
Hum... Maybe ^__^

True enough pal. I should really do that Clive quest one day, but it's SO against my nature to rush through a game during a replay !!

As to the PS2, I sold it to a friend before leaving Reunion island. It was old, I was afraid moving it would break something... the lens is so fragile, you know ? It already had a hard time playing some DVD from time to time, so I'd rather not take the risk of shipping it - who knows how it's handled as cargo, heh ?

I planned on buying another one, but well... as you said, I'm a poor money-needing student now so it will have to wait lol

It's not THAT hard, really. I've made it on the first try but use GameFaqs, so that you know who you have to talk to. I've made it in something like 17-18 hours I think. Make a few fights and blast your opponents with big magic to gain quickly in levels and that should do the trick.

Luca is hard to beat, but even when you play normally it IS hard, so... lol

I remember now that you told me about this, but my memory is tricking me again ^__^

Well, it's time I went to bed (I think I'll curse you tomorrow morning lol )

See ya ;)

I'm not too worried about the difficulty, I tamed harder beasts than that Ricanement But it's just that I very much like to take my time while replaying (you know, doing every little optional stuff as soon as possible, talking to the townspeople, just generally dawdling about), it's psychologically hard for me to convince myself to just... rush on lol

Going way back... I like Yuna's personality. Paine was trying to be Lulu, and that annoyed me. I really liked Lulu. I don't think you could really replace her. Rikku bugs me. She's alright for a character, but if she and I were in the same room... Gare à toi

I'm one that loves to do absolutely everything in RPG's, but get through them as fast as possible, too. That usually doesn't work out very well. Plus, I refuse to use a player's guide, at least the first time through. I want to be able to figure it out on my own.

Unfortunately, I've never played any Suikoden, but I've heard they're great. Someday I'll have to.

And Eol... trying to hit on me already? But we've only just met! Ils s'aiment (You guys will have to learn that I love to joke around. I hope you don't mind Cheeese ) Adding me to MSN messenger worked, by the way. You're on my list!

Stef and I are great suikofans, I hope you'll get the opportunity to play some day, even if finding suikoden1 & 2 is hard (or expensive sob ) now.

The 3 was not released in Europe, so I couldn't play it, and the 4 is quite disappointing. mmm...

I hope they'll do a better job with suikoden 5! Ahah !

Muhahaha ! Too much of the giddy-happy type ? lol
But yeah, totally agree with you on Paine. I loved Lulu too, she was cold & classy, she did not even have to try. Paine just tries too hard... and succeeds little. I think only one of her one-liners ever made me smile while playing, that's not what you may call a great score.
However, I still feel a little weirded out about Lulu ending up with Wakka o_O I mean, I do understand how opposites attract (can be real cool too), but that's just... too much... neutre He is so immature and silly compared to her... that's not very manly, let's just say.

I, for one, am relieved lol It means I can keep joking around a lot too without you running away screaming !

And as to Suikoden, the two PS1 games are great. If you can lay your hands on them sometime (I understand they're quite rare and thus expensive... lucky I got them years back when they were released !), do not hesitate playing them. I'm particularly fond of the first, though objectively speaking the second one is the real meat of the series : longer, more complete, more complex... As Eol said, the fourth is disappointing. The third never came out in Europe (those bastards ! Europe has long been at a disadvantage concerning games released, though things are getting better), so I have yet to check it out... one day !

"Weirded out" is exactly how I would describe how I feel about Lulu and Wakka together! Wakka's great and all, but Lulu needed somebody suave and manly... like Auron. Maybe if my marriage to Link falls through, I'll marry Auron. Or Vincent (FFVII). ^_~

And yes, feel free to joke around. It makes things so much more lively! That's always a good thing. ^_^

As for Suikoden, I'll have to look around for somebody who has it. I'd like to play it someday. Unfortunately, I generally get so busy with schoolwork that I don't have time to really play. I have to satisfy the gamer in my by listening to video game music instead of actually playing. Tristesse (My roommates are sick of my Final Fantasy music on rigole )
